Endorsements for Roscoe Turner

Roscoe is very visible in the community. You can see him at all different types of functions, whether it's meetings with other leaders to try and solve the gang problems, or neighborhood meetings just to find out what the people want and need.I like to tell people that I live on the South Side of the North Side, and proud of it.  I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, and I feel confident that with Roscoe, I at least have a voice in what happens here, and that someone who lives in my community, and experiences the same every day problems, will stand up for me, and work for me, to make our North Side better.                                                                                                                                - Karron Crandall - District 3 resident

I’ve been trying to work with the City of Tulsa for years on the noise abatement project for my home near the airport.  When Roscoe’s opponent was our City Councilor before, he made me out to be a liar in the interest of protecting his campaign funds.  It was not until Roscoe Turner was elected to the Tulsa City Council that I was heard and some action was taken on the problems many in my neighborhood have been experiencing.  I want to re-elect Councilor Turner because we need someone at City Hall listening to the people in the neighborhoods and asking the tough questions that should be asked.                                                                                                                      -Dave Schuttler, District 3 resident

As a businessman in District 3, I appreciate Roscoe’s dedication to this community.  I believe it has made a difference in Tulsa .  Roscoe’s help with the cleanup and restoration at our plants along Pine Street certainly made a big difference for our business.  I have been operating my business here in District 3 since 1992 and I am glad to be a part of the progress in this community.                                                             - Elmer Hemphill, Hemphill Corporation

Councilor Turner is a man for the people and by the people. He is a strong advocate for his constituents and he has a proven track record of doing the right thing for District 3 and the City of Tulsa.
- Richie Anderson, 100 Black Men Coalition of Tulsa - District 3 resident.

Councilor Turner is to be applauded for his participation in the life of his church, his community and his political party.
- Elaine Dodd, former Tulsa County Democratic Party Chairman

Rarely has a public officeholder provided the Party with as much support by his presence and work as Roscoe Turner.
- Gary Allison

Since the citizens of District 3 first elected Roscoe Turner, he has relentlessly worked to put the needs of District 3 and of neighborhoods all over the city above the wants of the midtown ruling elite. At this critical juncture in our City’s history, we must send to City Hall leaders who will resist the desperate onslaught on fairness and equality by the privileged few. Roscoe’s integrity and determination along with his proven record necessitate his return to the Tulsa City Council.
- Mike Slankard - District 3 resident

On behalf of our North Tulsa County Neighborhood Association, we encourage those who reside within District #3, within the City of Tulsa, to support and re-elect Councilor Roscoe Turner. We have witnessed time and again how he stands up for the people. Most definitely, he is citizen sensitive and strives to represent District #3, as well as Tulsa as a whole, with integrity. Accountability and honesty are high priorities for Councilor Turner. He is not afraid to take on challenges and face adverse situations. Tulsa has benefited by having Councilor Turner and for a healthy, positive and productive future, Tulsans need to keep him in the role of City Councilor!

Vote for Roscoe Turner

Two years ago, Tulsa almost made a terrible mistake.

In the Democratic primary for City Councilor District 3, David Patrick apparently defeated Roscoe Turner by three votes. Turner smelled a rat when he examined the vote totals. He discovered that some voters had listed “empty lots” as home addresses and some Republicans had voted in the closed Democratic primary.

Since there was no Republican opponent, Patrick apparently won the election. Turner, using his own money, appealed and the case wound up in the Oklahoma Supreme Court, which ruled for Turner and eventually ordered a new election.

In that new election, Turner won by more than 200 votes. It’s interesting to note that no one at the Tulsa County Election Board was reprimanded, lost his or her job or was arrested for those “problems” with that election.

On March 7, Turner and Patrick will face each other again. The winner will face Republican Gerald A. Rapson in the April 4 general election.

Turner is retired and is an independent thinker. He is a man of great faith. He judges each issue on a case-by-case basis. He battles for District 3 and has been a staunch advocate of greater public safety, improved roads and issues involving homeowners around Tulsa International Airport.

Turner is a reasonable man and will work with folks regardless of their political affiliation. He doesn’t lightly suffer fools and he has proven over and over again that he will challenge the status quo even if it means disagreeing with Mayor Bill LaFortune, the Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce or other powerful business interests.

Tulsa and District 3 need Roscoe Turner and the Tulsa Beacon offers its full endorsement for his re-election.
